House now known as ‘The Old Bakery’ on the Bath road, now a private house. On the left of the car was a large building used as a storerooom. The bakery was run by the Hemmens family and later by Edward ‘Baker’ Coles. John Gallop recalled the smell of new baked bread wafting across the village when he got up for early morning milking.

We knew it as Coles Bakery when I was a kid, mmm remember walking over there from East Croft to fetch the bread then getting a clip around my ear for biting a corner off the crust.
