Some people collect stamps, some coins but for the last 60 years Andrew Addicott’s been collecting photos of Blagdon (on the Mendips) and the surrounding area.
The images have come from a wide range of sources. He frequently borrowed and copied other people’s family snapshots which along with his own shots has built up into an archive of over 1000 images.
His lifetime collection has been looked through, duplicates removed and loosely sorted into categories. While certain images will be very familiar, and a fair bit is known about them, others are mysteries. The aim is to fill in the gaps wherever we can.
Blagdon Local History Society is running forums showing some of the less well-known images and hopefully those attending will be able to start to fill in the gaps. At the same time the collection is gradually being put online.
This archive hopes to give those that have moved away from the village the chance to contribute as well with further details on how to on our What we’d like to know, How to comment and Adding to the archive pages.
The rest of us just get the pleasure of looking at them and recognising the village from many years ago.
