IF YOU LOOK ALONG THE LANE YOU CAN JUST SEE THE SHOP THAT WAS PART OF CLENNON HOUSE BEFORE MODERNISATION. THE SHOP WAS AT ONE TIME A BUTCHERS WITH ITS OWN SLAUGHTERHOUSE ATTACHED. LATER IT WAS A FISH AND CHIP SHOP, MY MOTHER TOLD ME THAT SHE USED TO BE IN THE CHIPPY UNTIL LATE, WINDING UP THE OLD GRAMAPHONE AND PUTTING ON RECORDS FOR THE CUSTOMERS ENJOYMENT.

This photo was taken by Charlie Jones in the 1920’s – Charlie and hiis wife Kathleen nee Gallop later lived in Clennon House which Hugh mentions above.. Note the standpipe – piped water came in 1908, some houses were directly connected, and there were nine standpipes installed around the village for public use.
