From a newspaper report ‘Wrington Society’s Thatching’ dated July 26th 1934. The Wrington Ploughing Society held its thatching competition on Lady Wills’ estate at Langford Court Farm. Each competitor had to thatch one quarter of a stack. Eighteen entered and fifteen turned up. Sixty-five year old Frank Horler (in the photo), who has been thatching for 55 years, came second in the ‘over 25 years of age’ category.

Sheila would the photo of Frank Horler be the same Pincher Horler as he was affectionately known in Blagdon?

Belated reply sorry … only just seen this. Frank died in 1949 aged 79. I think ‘Pincher’ might be his son, I’ll try & find out more.
